Palpa Recycling fees beginning at 1.1.2016

29.10.2015

The recycling fee for beverage cans will decrease by 15% (0,0165 cents).
The change in recycling fee is due to favourable development in aluminium recycling market including the market price outlook.

The recycling fees for plastic bottles will decrease by 7% in all categories.
PET plastics market decline bottomed out in the spring of 2015 and the economy of the return system has stabilized due the positive progress in material sales. Also, there is a positive development of the overall costs. The share of bottle returns via reverse vending machines has increased further and saved counting and processing costs.

The recycling fees for glass bottles will remain on the same level as in 2015.
The financial situation of glass bottle return system is still challenging. The cost increase caused by an increased volume is compensated by more efficient operations and positive development of the overall costs.

The Finnish consumers are still returning all beverage containers with excellent return rates that are world class in international comparison.

The new prices are available on PALPA web site.

About PALPA glass containers

As the summer season is over we would like you to take a look at your stock of glass containers.

If you have unusable or broken glass containers in storage, please return them to your beverage supplier marked with a PALPA sticker.

When you return an empty container, please notify it separately to the driver. The container deposit will be credited also for broken containers.

PALPA return packaging and use of PALPA stickers

Returned beverage packages from all three recycling systems (can, plastic- and glass bottles) must be sorted and packed to separate transport units. Every unit must be marked with PALPAs identification sticker. Stickers can be ordered on PALPA Extranet or by email from [email protected].

Please ensure that you have enough stickers and the sorting and return instructions readily available. By sorting correctly you will ensure the maximum recyclability. The latest return and sorting instructions can be found on PALPAs website in the Materials section.

PALPA credit notes as e-invoices

PALPA is able to send the deposit credit notes as e-invoices.

If you have the ability to receive e-invoices, please send us the address and operator information by email to [email protected].

Panttiparkki expanding during summer 2015

PALPA has together with the city of Helsinki tested usage of tubes for deposit-based packages on the side of trash bins during late summer of 2014. The experience has been a good one and now the usage of Panttiparkki is going to expand to other cities in Finland.

The tube is mounted on the side of a trash bin and there can anyone put deposit-based beverage packages to be picked up and returned by someone else. This way the cans and bottles have no need to be put amongst the mixed waste or left in nature to litter the environment. The bottom of the tube moves sideways so that it is easy to remove the packages from the tube. Similar solutions are in use elsewhere in Europe.

Changes in one-way glass bottle registration

Based on the customer feedback and successful testing period we have been able to develop the product registration practice of glass bottles. From 16th of May 2015 importers and beverage manufacturers only have to send one glass bottle sample to each reverse vending machine manufacturer and Palpa. This will reduce need of samples to 4 packages for each registered product. If the sample package is broken during shipping we will contact the sender and ask for a new sample. The bottle dimensions are no longer required to be filled in Palpa Extranet product registration form. After the latest update the product registration form has separate section for bottle dimensions. Palpa takes the responsibility to fill in the dimension information based on measuring the samples. All the dimension requirements for packages remain the same as presented in Marking Instructions.
